Group Managing Director/CEO
Mr. Ezekiel Abiola Ekundayo is a seasoned insurance Practitioner with more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry.
He started this worthwhile career in 1984 with a broking firm in Lagos, Nigeria. He worked with WAPIC Insurance Company Limited, Nigeria, for few years before joining Globe Reinsurance PLC in 1989. The hard-working and resourceful Ezekiel was consistently identified with the company's growth, and in recognition of his contributions, he was appointed Executive Director in 2000 and later confirmed as the Deputy Managing Director in 2001. Ezekiel continued to be result-driven and goal-oriented, and he was eventually appointed as the Managing Director /CEO of the company in 2007. He piloted Globe Re to the Francophone countries on the West African Coast, thus making Globe Re the first Nigerian Reinsurance company to do business with the Francophone world.
Ezekiel Ekundayo joined WAICA Reinsurance Corporation in July, 2011 as the Pioneer MD/CEO. He started this noble Corporation from the zero level and grew it to become one of the fastest growing/leading reinsurance companies in Africa today.
Under his leadership, the Corporation embarked on strategic business expansion which resulted in the establishment of four (4) Subsidiaries and four (4) regional offices within a short period.
Ezekiel was appointed the Group Managing Director/CEO in September 2018, and he sits on the Boards of the subsidiary companies.
His experience as an insurance practitioner covers wide areas of the profession, including brokerage, marketing, underwriting, reinsurance, investment and risk management. He has varied experience in executive management and technical fields, having attended courses, both locally and internationally. Some of the courses he has attended include 'Leading the Team Course' at Lagos Business school, Nigeria, 'Reinsurance strategic management' at the prestigious Wit Business School, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and 'Managing people Effectively' at D&B Business Training Services, London. He is a bilingual executive who speaks English and French fluently.
Ezekiel Abiola Ekundayo believes in insurance education and workforce development, as a result of which he has continued to train the younger professionals who can confidently take over tomorrow the mantle of leadership in the insurance profession. He is a member of the Governing Council, West African Insurance Institute. Member, Society of Fellows, West African Insurance Institute. He was conferred with the Fellowship of WAII for Academic Excellence and Development of the West African Insurance Institute, The Gambia, in 2019
He graduated from the Lagos state polytechnic, Nigeria, where he studied Insurance, and he holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Lagos State University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London (with specialization in Reinsurance) and Chartered Institute of Marketing, Nigeria.
Group Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Abiba Zakariah is the Group Chief Operating Officer of WAICA Reinsurance Corporation PLC, she assists the Chief Executive Officer in designing and implementing appropriate international best practice managerial structures, policies and procedures. As well as the objectives, strategies, monitoring and controls required for the effective and efficient operations and performance of the company in accordance with laid-down regulations.
She holds a Doctorate in Management from Swiss Management Centre, Geneva, Switzerland a master’s degree in Marketing from the University of Ghana, Legon. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, Institute of Risk Management Professionals Ghana and a Chartered Marketer, has attended several international courses and is currently a Law student at KAAF university, Accra, Ghana, and a Student of the Assemblies of God Bible College in Saltpond, Ghana.
Dr. Abiba Zakariah has over twenty five years' working experience and served on several committees in the marketing and insurance industry. She was the Group Chief Operations Officer of TG Holding LTD until 2019, and before then the Managing Director of Ghana Re. She is a visiting lecturer at the West African Insurance Institute and was a resource person at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Ghana Insurance College amongst other institutions.
Dr. Abiba Zakariah Chairs the Bluerose Construction Ltd Board, a member of the Board of NSIA Ghana Insurance Company, and Sureway Assemblies of God Church. She chaired the Ghana Oil and Gas Board and served on the following Boards; Ghana Reinsurance, Hollard Insurance Ghana, Priority Insurance Company, Unique Life, CDH group of Companies Ltd and the Ghana Agric Insurance Pool.
Dr. Abiba Zakariah is the Chairperson of the Sierra Leone Insurance Industry developmental Plan. She also served on the following committees set up by the Ghana National Insurance Commission to support industry growth; the Agricultural Insurance Pool Steering and Technical Committees, the “No Premium No Cover” Committee and Reinsurance Committee.
As a motivational speaker she has spoken on several institutional platforms including the University of Ghana, Legon and the SOS Hermann Gmeiner college in Ghana. She also posts daily motivational quotes on ‘YourQuote’ and Facebook, as well as mentor’s some troubled teenagers.
She is an awardee of the Business Insurance Women to watch EMEA in 2019 and the Northern Youth for Peace and development in Ghana in 2017.
Jasper is our pioneer CFO. He is a finance and insurance professional with passion for strategy, leadership, operational efficiency and risk management. Equipped with over 17 years of insurance and reinsurance industry experience across Africa, he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and technical expertise in the theory and practice of finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, treasury management and budgeting. A highly skilled CFO with proven track record of achievements in strategy formulation and implementation to drive operations, revenue and profit growth objectives within subsidiaries and regional offices.
He was appointed to establish the audit departments of both Quality Insurance Company Limited and Star Assurance Company Limited leading to efficiencies in controls and smooth business operations. He was later selected as CFO to re-engineer and restructure the finance department of Wapic Insurance (Ghana) Limited to make it more responsive to strategic objectives and to improve the bottom line. He also had an exciting career at the University of Cape Coast (School of Business Studies) and World Vision International.
Jasper holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and MBA Finance from University of Leicester, UK. He is both a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Insurer. He is thus a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) UK. Jasper has attended several seminars and conferences both home and abroad in leadership, insurance, financial management, information technology, among others. He was a member of the finance committee of Ghana Insurers Association (GIA).
Mr. Clement Owusu holds a BSc. Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana Business School and MBA Finance with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
He attended the West African Insurance Institute in The Gambia where he was awarded the prize for the Highest Scholastic Achievement.

CEO, WAICA Re KENYA
Mr. Charles Etemesi is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Subsidiary Office . He holds a Diploma in insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and a Master of Business Administration (Management Science) from Kenyatta University, Nairobi and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the Bombay University, India. Mr. Etemesi has over 20 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry in Kenya and Zambia. Prior to joining WAICA Re (Kenya) in April 2018 as the Chief Executive Officer, Charles has held senior management positions at Kenya Reinsurance Corporation and Prima Reinsurance, Zambia.
CEO, WAICA Re ZIMBABWE
Wilberforce joined WAICA Re in April 2019, bringing with him over 30 years-experience in both reinsurance underwriting and broking. He is very much a hands-on practitioner having started his career as an underwriting trainee with the then Zimbabwe Reinsurance Corporation. He steadily rose through the ranks to attain the position of Acting General Manager Technical by the time he left to join the newly established Aon Re Zimbabwe, a broking operation.
He spent 12 years with Aon Re during which he played a pivotal role in establishing the company as the dominant player in the reinsurance space both in Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa region outside South Africa. In 2007, he briefly joined Reinsurance Brokers International, Zimbabwe, as Managing Director and managed to turn the fortunes of that company, winning business around the region. In that role he set up operations in Malawi and Uganda to extend the company’s reach around the region.
In 2009 Wilberforce ventured across the ocean to join Reinsurance Solutions International in Mauritius. Starting as Area Manager and then Executive Director, his responsibility was to extend the company’s operations into mainland Africa. The consummate marketer he is, he accomplished this role with distinction as he criss-crossed the length and breath of the continent establishing lasting relationships with captains of industry in many markets. By the time he left to join WAICA Re, Reinsurance Solutions had become well established across the continent with offices in Kenya and Ivory Coast.
Wilberforce is a graduate of the University of Zimbabwe School of Law where he attained Bachelor of Law (Honours) degree. He is also a holder of an Executive MBA degree from the East and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI). He is the Vice Chairman of the Zimbabwe Association of Reinsurers (ZARO) and sits on the Board of Directors of Special Automobile Underwriters Zimbabwe (SAUZ). He has also been involved as a visiting lecturer in Reinsurance subjects at the National University of Science & Technology in Zimbabwe.
Regional Director (Nigeria)
Mr Steve Odjugo is currently the Regional Director (Nigeria) with responsibility for overseeing the Nigerian market operations and oil & gas business operations for the Group. Prior to joining WAICA Re, he was the Head of Anglophone (West Africa) at Reinsurance Solutions International, Abidjan. Before this, he was at Continental Reinsurance plc where he occupied the positions of Group Head, Technical Training & Quality Assurance, Regional Director (Anglophone West Africa) and Practice Leader, Energy & Special Risks at different times.
He is a Chartered Insurer with close to three decades of professional practice experience across direct insurance underwriting, insurance/reinsurance broking and reinsurance underwriting and management.
Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Insurance Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Master of Business Administration degree in International Business. He is also an alumnus of the Lagos Business School Advanced Management Program (AMP 24).
Senior Manager (Technical) Life
Mr. Dipo Gbenro started his Insurance and Reinsurance career with Triumph Assurance Company in 1988 and moved to Globe Reinsurance Plc in 1993. He left Globe Re in 2009 to join Alliance and General Insurance Company Ltd as a Divisional Director (Business Development).
Mr. Gbenro Dipo is a graduate of Insurance from the Lagos State Polytechnic and holds an M.B.A (Marketing Management) from the Lagos State University; he is an Associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (ACIIN).
In his quest for advancement and management of both capital and human resources, he has attended many courses, conferences, seminars and workshops both at local and international fora on reinsurance, risk management, marketing and management courses. Mr. Gbenro is happily married.
Senior Manager (Technical)
I was born in Ikoro Ekiti, a town in western Nigeria on 26th January, 1969. I am a Christian and married man.
In the earlier part of my life, I displayed rare skill in figures and leadership, culminating in prizes that were given to me in recognition of my talent in both my elementary and secondary schools days. In the later years, I displayed this natural gift in my exciting carrier in the Nigerian Insurance industry in different departments within the Technical divisions of various insurance companies as summarized below: A passionate teacher and financial consultant.
I joined Reinsurance department of UNIC Insurance PLC in the year 1991 as a clerical officer but as a result of my hardworking and unrelenting effort I was promoted to various positions and finally to Superintendent 1998.The position I was until year 2001 when I resigned.
In the year 2001 precisely 26th of June, I joined Phoenix of Nigeria Assurance Plc, as an Assistant Manager/ Head of Reinsurance & Statistics Department. Upon confirmation in year 2002 , I was made Manager Reinsurance, Statistics and Claims department and in 2005 I was made Senior manager Technical, reporting to Head Technical to oversee technical activities of the company.
As a result of the industry recapitalization exercise of 2007 which led to the marriage of Royal Exchange Assurance and Phoenix of Nigeria, I was redeployed to Royal Exchange Assurance as a Manager 1 to coordinate the Underwriting activities of some branches called Lagos unit 2 and Latter as Head of Marine and Aviation Department.
In 2013, I was elevated to the position of senior manager / Head of underwriting General Businesses, the position I occupied till 1st April,2015 when I resigned my appointment and joined WAICA Reinsurance corporation as Nigeria Country Manager.
I am an alumnus of University of Lagos, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomosho, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife; where I obtained degrees in B.sc. Accounting(second class upper)and M.sc. Accounting, PGD. Computer Science, MBA Financial Mgt respectively. And an Associate member of both Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (ACIIN) and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ACA).
I have attended both local and overseas courses and seminars.
Edward Duamroh started his career with Professional Orientation Planning Services. This was after completing his mandatory National Service at Ghana National College where he taught elective science subjects.
He completed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a BSc degree in Biochemistry.
He joined KEK Reinsurance Brokers (Africa) Ltd in 2010 as a Senior Broking Officer(Treaty and Facultative) and then rose through the ranks to become a full manager in 2016. He qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK) in 2011 and is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner
Edward joined WAICA Re in July 2020 as the head of the Ghana Regional Office after a fruitful ten (10) years at KEK Reinsurance Brokers (Africa) Ltd. He joins WAICA Re with a wealth of experience in insurance underwriting. Edward has attended several seminars and workshops. Some of which are:

Regional Director – North Africa
An ambitious character that started her career with the la Méditerranéenne d’Assurances et de Réassurance “MARE” in Tunisia, she is an experienced professional with a strong background in Reinsurance Brokerage. Indeed, she served the reinsurance brokerage firm for ten (10) years with a senior position as Reinsurance Manager.
She is currently working at WAICA Reinsurance Corporation as the Regional Manager of Maghreb which will greatly help to extend WAICA Re’s reach into North African markets. Hanene brings to the region her extensive reinsurance experience in the Tunisian and North African markets.
Hanene holds a Science Bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Accounting from the high school of Tunisia “ISG Tunis” in 2005. She is recognised as a strategic leader and critical thinker, with a strong record of execution in multiple environments and cultures.
She has attended many courses, conferences, seminars and workshops in Reinsurance, Risk Management, Finance and Accounting.
Regional Director (Francophone)
Gilles-Alexandre AYIMAN is currently the Regional Director of the WAICA Re office located in Abidjan and is also in charge of the Francophone Africa zone.
Gilles-Alexandre holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Processes from the National Polytechnic Institute Félix Houphouet Boigny of Yamoussoukro (INPHB / Côte d’Ivoire) and a European Expert diploma in Analysis and Management of Fire and Explosion Risk (NFPA / CT INSSI) from the CNPP in Vernon (France).
Since 2016, Gilles-Alexandre has joined the insurance and reinsurance industry, after two years in a heavy industrial environment. He was first a Risk Verifier Engineer for Atlantique Assurances CI for 03 years, then Underwriter in charge of Facultative Affairs for the CIMA Zone at the regional office of WAICA Re Côte d'Ivoire for 02 years. This experience of several years in the insurance and reinsurance sector enabled him to develop a solid network of brokers, cedants and reinsurers in the French-speaking region thanks to his ability to respond positively, efficiently, and in a timely fashion to reinsurance and technical assistance needs; but also thanks to his good people skills.
An enthusiastic character that started her insurance career with the Nationwide Insurance brokers in Sierra Leone in 1987. She later on decided to integrate into the Milton Margai college of Education and Technology where she studied French and English Language.
She went to Guinea in 1997, and with her pre knowledge in French and insurance; she was employed by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) where she served as a teacher and then Vice Principal of the school. She was promoted to Field Officer, Tracing & Reunification of Separated & Unaccompanied Children for the Forecariah region in 2000
Late in 2000, the post of Administrative Officer was advertised for the Forecariah region by the International Rescue Committee (IRC). She applied, and among dozens of internal and external candidates that applied, she made an outstanding performance and was offered the post.
She was later promoted to the post of Senior Administrative Officer for the IRC Conakry office and then later to Administrative Manager of the N’zerekore field office where she was given the responsibilities of managing administrative issues as well as the insurance needs of the organization including property and staff. She was then made head of the sub office.In N’zerekore, she introduced a welfare committee referred to as the Staff Welfare Committee which was geared towards responding to staff personal issues such as, weddings, funerals, child naming ceremonies, as top management did not pay much attention to some of these pertinent staff issues.She also served in the IRC Mann office as a Field Coordinator, an international position.
Mrs. Binty Kamara has attended trainings in Kenya-Ambosele National Park on Administration and also Security, Monitoring and Evaluation trainings in Istanbul, Turkey. Binty holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Fourah Bay College, the University of Sierra Leone.
Head, Human Resources
Monica Tembo has over 12 years’ experience in Human Capital management of which 7 years at the managerial level.
She started her career at Premier Service Medical Investments (PSMI) (leading health insurance and health services provider in Zimbabwe) as a Trainee where she rose to become a Human Resources Manager. She also led the HR function in companies in industries in Zimbabwe which include Insurance, Telecommunications, and Agriculture. In these industries, she has successfully transformed Human Capital’s contribution to be strategic through monitoring of the Company’s performance dashboard. She has vast experience in the implementation of a Human Resources strategy that supports the Corporate Strategy through a robust Performance Management system, Talent management process, and development of culture and environment that enables the attainment of corporate set objectives.
Monica holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Human Resources Management and Honours Degree in Business Management, both from the University of South Africa and a Master of Business Leadership with Bindura University of Science Education (Zimbabwe). She also holds a Diploma in Human Resources Management with the Institute of Personnel Management in Zimbabwe where she is also an Associate member. Currently, she is studying towards the accomplishment of a Bachelor of Laws Degree with the University of South Africa. Monica has attended development seminars and conferences in Performance Management, Strategy formulation, and implementation, and Mentoring and Coaching.
Group Chief Actuary Officer
Armand Patrick KOMNEK is the Group Chief Actuary Officer of WAICA Reinsurance PLC. Mr. KOMNEK oversees the company’s Actuarial activities of the group and he is appointed to embed the actuarial culture within the organization.
Mr. KOMNEK has over sixteen years of working experience and serves in several committees in the actuarial profession and insurance industry. He served as the CEO/principal Actuary of AHRE group that he founded to provide actuarial and insurance consulting services worldwide from offices located in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg and in the Republic of Cameroon, and through partnerships. Before that, he was the Head of iptiQ EMEA valuation, Appointed Actuary and Head of the Actuarial Function for the iptiQ carriers in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg for Swiss Re group from 2014 to 2018, and Actuarial and Risk Manager for Munich Re Health entities in the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg between 2011 and 2014.
Mr. KOMNEK is a Certified Actuary from the French Institute of Actuary, a member of the board of the House of Actuaries in Cameroon, and is part of the few actuaries that allow time to develop the actuarial profession Worldwide through Associations and University. He has served as a board member for the Actuaries Without Border section of the International Association of Actuaries and the Association of African Actuaries.
Chief Risk Officer
Monday is Certified in Quantitative Risk Management (CQRM), Risk Management, Real Options Analysis, Forecasting & Predictive Modelling, Data Science & Monte Carlo Simulation. He holds a Master of Science in Risk Management & Insurance, as well as a Master of Business Administration with specialisation in Financial Management. Monday is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and a Chartered Insurer. with over 16 years of risk, compliance and insurance experience and a track record of successfully developing and implementing effective Risk Management and Compliance programs within large and complex organizations. He is adept at identifying risks, developing and monitoring key risk indicators (KRIs) and proactively implementing risk mitigation measures. Monday has proven senior-level experience in executive decision-making, policy direction, strategic business planning, financial and personnel management. Monday has practical experience in both the private and public sectors.
He is skilled in drafting and formulating risk policies, setting up and running a risk management department and at embedding risk management in the culture of organizations. Monday has been involved in providing risk reports to board of directors for effective decision making and helping managements surf through complex decision-making process.
Monday has played the role of a Chief Risk Officer in at least three (3) organizations and he is currently the Chief Risk Officer of WAICA Reinsurance Corporation Plc, Freetown, Sierra Leone, a company with presence in six (6) African countries and the United Kingdom. Monday is skilled, qualified and certified as a Risk Trainer and he is very enthusiastic about his presentations and delivery of risk information. Monday has also authored several motivational books that are published in Amazon books.
Monday loves learning, meeting people and writing.
Mr. Winston Kuti-George has amassed no less than twelve years experience in Insurance, Risk Management and Strategic Business Management. He is currently working at WAICA Reinsurance Corporation as the Assistant Manager (Technical).
Prior to his engagement with WAICA Re, he was the Medical and Travel Manager for a period of eleven years at Great Alliance Insurance Company Ltd in Banjul, The Gambia. Between 2008 and 2010, he worked as an Associate Consultant with Online Computer Software, an Information Technology service provider powered by Mr. M.K.Samassekou in Mali. Two key highlights of his consultancy venture with Online Computer Software are the successful computerization projects that streamlined the business operations of Aureol Insurance Company and Reliance Insurance Trust Corporation (RITCORP), both based in Sierra Leone, through the deployment of the Complete Insurance Software Solutions (CISSOL) software package.
He has worked with KEW Consultancy in Banjul - a management consultancy firm and CWAD Consultancy in Banjul - a media consultancy firm. In addition, he has also partnered with the Managing Director of Acris International, a UK based insurance fraud and risk assessment firm undertaking assignments on behalf of the US, London and African insurance markets.
Mr. Kuti-George has chaired various committees and authored a number of articles on Insurance Fraud and Employee Engagement which are published quarterly by the Insurance Association of the Gambia (IAG). He has also hosted radio programs and given lectures on behalf of the IAG for the progress and development of the Insurance industry in the Gambia. He is well recognized by the Insurance Association of the Gambia for his commitment and dedication to insurance development in the country.
Mr. Winston Michael Kuti-George is a Fellow of the Association of Business Executives in the UK, a Chartered Insurance Practitioner of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) UK, and a member of the underwriting faculty of the Chartered Insurance Institute UK. He holds a graduate diploma in Religious Studies, School of Religious Studies in Banjul. In 2005, he graduated with distinction from the West African Insurance Institute (WAII), College of Insurance and Risk Management and won three scholastic awards in Reinsurance, Marketing and Agency Management and Agricultural Insurance. He has attended many training programs, workshops and conferences.
He now lectures on Insurance at the West African Insurance Institute - Sierra Leone Chapter as well as Religious courses at the 21st Century Global World Mission Bible School – Sierra Leone Chapter.
Additionally, he is also a Chartered member of the Chartered Management Institute, UK, and a Specialist member of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), UK.
He is currently pursuing a MBA (Law) degree with Anglia Ruskin University based in the UK.
He is happily married with 3 strong boys.
With a passion for client satisfaction and a track record of excellent service delivery both in the private and public sectors of Sierra Leone, Hawa started her professional career with Africell Sierra Leone Limited, serving as the company’s first corporate accounts officer and proceeded to work for Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited where she unswervingly balanced customers’ delight and the bank’s portfolio growth in her roles as Head of the Public Sector unit and as Head of Customer Services.
Hawa has also served the public sector of Sierra Leone both at the Ministry of Trade and Industries, and at the Millennium Challenge Coordinating Unit, where she was an instrumental team player in sourcing and managing funds and benchmarking policies leading to Sierra Leone’s eligibility for the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation Funding.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone and a Masters degree in Education from Njala University College, University of Sierra Leone and has attended several trainings in Portfolio Management, Marketing and Customer Services.
